Orphaned Works Act

The following essay was sent to me from FelixTheCat.

My position as Administrator of the Pirate Party

There have been a lot of problems within the Pirate Party that exists in the United States.  I have been the administration officer at a time where there are more vacancies in officer seats than officers. A vote of no confidence was called, questioning my suitability on the day of my election, though no vote on the matter happened then and was dropped as a frivolous and personal attack.

As a consumer, I have some demands!

 Alright, future.  Listen here.

Listen.

When I walk into a room, I want all the media I have tagged as 'share with others' to shuffle into the media mix playing until I leave.

Is Color a new limited resource?

I was reading this article recently about the ownership of the color spectrum.  I really think that this discussion topic really brings to bear the fear that culture can be owned.  I can imagine a day when an artist is given a takedown notice, or a public display license requirement, for using something that is owned.  It is interesting to see how far this is going and even more interesting to imagine possible enforcement in the future.

Christian Engstrom Explains The Pirate Party's Position: Freedom To Communicate; Freedom From Privacy Invasion

Christian put out a blog recently here.  If you didn't know he is one of our* two EU representatives that the Pirate Party has right now.  I found this a pretty great article that explains a lot in very few words.

I am Jerry the Mandelbot, and I am very happy.
Today, my owner drove me to a new place, where I talked
to many other mandelbots through my wifi hardware.
I sat in the boot of my owners car and talked to the other
mandelbots nearby all day, we swapped tv shows and films,
music and games. When I got home, Andy, my owner asked me
what I had found, and I told him. He was very happy too.

A ranty blog about Political Ownership

In many ways I consider the Pirate fight to be a fight over propriety.  We fear, and frankly observe, the ownership of our culture, processes, and systems by individuals who have no right to claim such ownership.  There is a unified rally for 'the way things used to be' and 'the way things have always been done' in our government offices, business places, and industries.  Those that seek fair change and modernization are often met with extreme opposition by the culture of those who seek 'not to rock the boat' in these places.

Tour Status : Update about Field Operation in Braddock PA

My dear pirates,

It has now been quite some time since I left out across the country to tour communities in a quest to identify possible municipal level policies for the party.  I met with some success on this trip, speaking to and at a multitude of intentional communities about what legal barriers keep them from growing and evolving naturally.  Shared workspaces are now more common than they where when I travelled a half-decade ago.  Makerspaces are popping up everywhere.  I found that many groups feel that their local government does not support the desire to innovate and modernize their cultural makeup, of course; but very few had any idea what could be done to help.
